Petkeljärvi National Park 70 Years

National Parks from the Second Wave of Establishment Celebrate Their 70th Anniversary in 2026

Finland's smallest, but by no means least significant, national park is Petkeljärvi. In the ridge terrain, embroidered with clear-water wilderness lakes, you can see traces of defense structures from the Continuation War, some of which have been restored.

Petkeljärvi's birthday celebrations will be held on Saturday, August 29, 2026. The hiking center's Café and Nature Hut opens its doors at 8 AM, serving breakfast. The day's program includes, among other things, free paddling instruction, cake and coffee provided by Metsähallitus, the vocal ensemble Lempo performing in the afternoon, Tiina Hakkarainen from Metsähallitus telling about Petkeljärvi's history, and non-fiction writer Pepe Forsberg presenting his latest book, 'The Secret Files of National Parks'. So, a variety of programs are planned. A warm welcome.

We will publish the detailed program with schedules a bit later.
