Petkeljärvi National Park 70 years

The second wave of national parks will celebrate their 70th anniversary in 2026

Finland's smallest, but not the smallest, national park is Petkeljärvi. In the ridge landscape dotted with clear-water wilderness lakes, you can see traces of the Continuation War-era defense structures, some of which have been restored.

Petkeljärvi's birthday party will be held on Saturday, August 29, 2026. The hiking center's café-nature hut will open its doors at 8 a.m., serving breakfast. The program during the day includes, among other things, free kayaking instruction, cake coffees offered by Metsähallitus, the singing group Lempo will perform in the afternoon, Tiina Hakkarainen from Metsähallitus will tell about the history of Petkeljärvi, and non-fiction writer Pepe Forsberg will be presenting his latest book, The Secret Folders of National Parks. So there is a wide variety of programs in store. Warm welcome.

We will publish a more detailed program with a schedule a little later.
