Petkeljärvi National Park celebrates its 70th anniversary on Saturday, 29.08.2026, with various free all-day events. If you have never paddled a kayak or canoe but would like to try, now is an excellent opportunity, as an experienced paddling instructor from Pirkko Koihu Adventures will be there to give tips and instructions on how to get started with paddling. A rescue boat will also be present, and paddling practice will take place in the Kokkolahti area in Petraniemi, so the area is restricted and safe. Each session accommodates a maximum group of 12 people, and minors must be accompanied by an adult guardian.
The paddling equipment used consists of either two-person touring kayaks or canoes; equipment and life/paddling vests are provided by the service provider. Remember to bring weather-appropriate clothing and dry spare clothes. You always get a little wet when paddling, even if it's not raining. It is advisable to pack your phone and car keys in a waterproof manner.
